Thickened timing belt (or reinforced thick-back timing belt) is a heavy-duty synchronous belt engineered with increased cross-sectional thickness—particularly in the backing layer—to enhance tensile strength, load capacity, and durability while maintaining precise tooth engagement.

Materials:

  • Polyurethane(PU): Known for its high tensile strength and excellent wear resistance, making it suitable for high-load applications.
  • Rubber: Often reinforced with fibers (like fiberglass or polyester) for added strength and durability.
  • Nylon: Excellent wear resistance and low friction coefficient, suitable for some low to medium load applications.
  • Reinforced Fiberglass: For added strength and stability, incorporate reinforced fiberglass cords. These cords prevent stretching and maintain the belt’s integrity under high loads.
  • PVC: Non-Reinforced, low production cost, suitable for budget applications.

 

Types:

Thickened type: Structural Thickening: Extra-thick polyurethane (PU) or rubber layer to resist elongation under high tension.

 

Range of thickness:

  • Polyurethane(PU): The thickness can reach 5 to 10mm. This thickened polyurethane synchronous belt is used when higher load capacity and wear resistance are required, or when extremely high transmission accuracy is demanded and the working conditions are more complex, such as in the transmission of high-precision CNC machine tools and industrial robot arms.
  • Rubber: The thickness can reach 6 to 12mm. In some heavy-load and high-impact transmission scenarios, such as the transmission systems of heavy-duty conveying equipment and mining machinery, thicker chloroprene rubber synchronous belts need to be used to withstand greater tensile and impact forces.
